Poison Arrows upgrade is unlocked at card Level 2 and Bigger Bows is unlocked at Level 3.

Defensive Strategy[]
The Archer Tower is a versatile turret which is one of the best choices throughout the game. A well-placed Archer Tower can guard many lanes at the same time due to its long range and fast-shooting speed. Archer Towers can be highly effective on Birds because of its Poison Arrows upgrade. Also with a very cheap placement cost (50 Mana) and high number of maximum uses (5), Archer Tower is a wise choice in every player's strategy.
Archer Towers can be placed at the start, middle, or end of the lane; they are effective in any role. After placing your key Towers (Volcano Towers, Poison Towers, Slowdown Towers) to their positions, fill all available empty slots with Archer Towers.
It's generally a good idea to upgrade at least the first level of Poison Arrows early on in the battle because it is inexpensive and provides a considerable damage bonus in addition to the poison modifier (which is excellent against Birds).
In Eyrie of the Avian King, where the roads to your flags are usually designed with complexity, Archer Towers should form the cornerstone of your defensive lay-out; however, it is advisable to utilize Bolas Towers first as their high damage per second (DPS) against Birds can be your key to victory.
