Abilities and Upgrades[]

The Lightning Tower comes with two abilities eligible for upgrades on the battlefield: Overcharge and Chain Lightning. Overcharge is available from the Level 1 card and improves damage. Chain Lightning is available from the Level 2 card and allows for multiple enemies to be shocked at once.

As the Lightning Tower upgrades, more upgrades will be available for both abilities. Overcharge can be upgraded a total of 5 times, and Chain Lightning 3. The damage from chain lightning is reduced by 50%/40%/30% for each subsequent target. For example: 1st hit=100, 2nd=50, 3rd=30, 4th=21.

Defensive Strategy[]

Lightning Tower is a good choice in levels that provide you with high amount of Mana. If fully upgraded, Lightning Tower can possibly be the most powerful tower in the game, however, the upgrade costs are considerable.

Place the Lightning Tower at the end of the road, nearby your flags, to finish off the mobs that are coming to your home. If enemies are too spread out for Chain Lighting to hit more than one at a time, using a Slowdown Tower just in front of the Lightning Tower will bunch them up for increased effectiveness.

Due to the fact that Lightning Tower only hits one unit at a time (unless you upgrade Chain Lightning), it's not a good choice against large numbers of enemies, so you should have some Area of Effect damage-type towers ahead of them in this case. What's more, without any upgrades, the Lightning Tower is indeed inefficient considering its high Mana cost for building (100). Try placing other towers (such as Archer Towers and Bolas Towers) first, to help you survive first waves, then deploy Lightning Towers to sort out the last waves.
